It is important that young children start to understand that
history is about the past and that we find out about the past
from clues people have left behind. They should have experience
of a variety of sources of information including
Probate
Records
Census Returns
Images
Trade Directories
Tithe Maps
Each document has a link to a full transcript
(where applicable).
Most of these sources are available for areas shown on the places
list.
The development of children's questioning skills is crucial
to historical enquiry. Using the Staffordshire Places resources
the lesson plans aim to develop a more focused enquiry. Children
are encouraged to record any questions arising from the sources
and use the sources confidently to answer those particular questions.
For guidance on the types of documents use the content guide.
The lesson plans also provide many meaningful cross curricular
links, embracing the National Primary Strategy, by offering
a broad and rich curriculum, promoting excellence and enjoyment.
